New Jersey Adoption Attorneys
Experienced (25+ Years) Guidance in Private Adoption Proceedings
A private adoption proceeding offers a number of advantages. In a private adoption, you will typically work face to face with the birth mother or birth parents without an intermediary. A private adoption can also be arranged by a private intermediary. However, in the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, a private, unlicensed intermediary cannot be paid for services rendered in assisting with an adoption. The process can be far less expensive than an agency adoption. These are matters that you will want to have handled by an experienced adoption lawyer. Cofsky & Zeidman, LLC, can help.
At Cofsky & Zeidman, LLC, we have provided comprehensive legal counsel to prospective adoptive parents and to birth parents for more than 1,500 families involved in adoption proceedings. A Fellow and Past President of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys, Donald C. Cofsky has also been named an Angel in Adoption by the Congressional Coalition for Adoption in Washington, D.C. He is AV-rated by other attorneys under Martindale-Hubbell’s Peer Review Rating System and has been lauded as a New Jersey Super Lawyer, as well as an Awesome Attorney by South Jersey Magazine and a Top Attorney by SJ Magazine.

Assisting You with All Matters Related to Private Adoptions
We will help you gather all information necessary to complete a home study, and will prepare and file all documentation required to initiate and complete the adoption process. We will also be your advocate in all hearings or proceedings, from the preliminary hearing (usually two to three months after you file for adoption) to the final hearing, which typically occurs about six months after the preliminary hearing, after supervisory visits are completed by an approved agency.
We will advise you regarding ways to locate a child and, once you have identified a child whom you wish to adopt, will prepare and file the complaint for adoption with the court. We will counsel you throughout any investigation required to complete the adoption and will take the necessary steps to legally terminate the parental rights of both birth parents.
